A massive power outage early Sunday morning left thousands of customers without electricity in various municipalities of Nayarit and several other states, according to reports shared on social media. As of now, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) has not reported the cause of the outage or the number of affected customers.

In Nayarit, residents of Tepic, Xalisco, Bahía de Banderas, Compostela, Santiago Ixcuintla, San Blas, and other municipalities reported almost simultaneous power cuts, affecting homes, businesses, roads, and basic services.

The outage was reported in several regions of Nayarit.

Reports began to multiply on Sunday as users in different parts of the state alerted authorities to the sudden interruption of electrical service. In several cases, the outages left entire neighborhoods, businesses, and high-traffic areas in darkness, while residents sought official information about the situation.

The outage was not concentrated in a single area; In the capital of Nayarit and in municipalities along the coast, in the south, and in the north of the state, power outages were reported practically simultaneously, pointing to a widespread failure within the electrical distribution or transmission network.

In addition to the immediate impact on homes, the blackout also caused disruptions to commercial activities, failures in electrical systems, and concern among users due to the lack of official information during the first minutes of the outage.

There were also reports in other states.

Simultaneously, users in states such as Jalisco, Sinaloa, Tabasco, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo reported power interruptions on social media, so it is possible that the failure had a regional or even broader reach; however, so far there is no official statement confirming whether all the outages registered in the country are related to the same incident.

As of press time, the CFE had not issued a statement specifying the cause of the blackout, the number of affected customers, or whether the failure originated in a transmission line, a substation, or another point in the national electrical grid.

It is expected that the state-owned company will release official information in the coming hours regarding the cause of the outage, the actual extent of the disruption, and the impact on service.
