A passenger bus and a trailer collided on the Federal Highway 15 Libre, at kilometer 100 near the community of Lázaro Cárdenas, in the municipality of Rosamorada, Nayarit. The preliminary death toll was four people, while 20 others were injured.
The accident occurred on the Tepic-Mazatlán route. Emergency services responded after receiving a report through the 911 emergency number. The injured were treated and transported to hospitals in Acaponeta, Rosamorada, and Santiago Ixcuintla.
Firefighters, Civil Protection personnel, police officers, the National Guard, the Defense Ministry, the Nayarit State Attorney General’s Office, the Red Cross, and municipal police forces participated in the emergency response.
Some of the injured people had to be extracted from the vehicles using manual and hydraulic rescue equipment. Emergency personnel also removed the batteries from both vehicles as a preventive measure to reduce the risk of a fire. A fuel spill was also handled at the scene.
The crash caused a total closure of traffic around kilometer 100+300 of the Federal Highway 15 Libre Tepic-Mazatlán. The National Guard’s Roads Division asked drivers to follow the traffic signs and instructions in the area.
The Nayarit State Attorney General’s Office sent forensic personnel to the scene to carry out the corresponding procedures and determine the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities stated that further information would be released as the investigation progresses and confirmed information becomes available.
Some reports indicated that the bus may have been carrying people returning from an event attended by President Claudia Sheinbaum in Tepic. However, this detail was not included as a confirmed fact in the initial statement from the Nayarit Attorney General’s Office, and reports described it as unconfirmed.
The Government of Nayarit also reported that, following instructions from Governor Miguel Ángel Navarro, it would provide follow-up care for those injured and cover the necessary medical and funeral expenses resulting from the accident.
