In Huajicori, Nayarit, violence has escalated due to the territorial dispute between the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel and the Sinaloa Cartel, causing the forced displacement of residents, leaving at least 12 communities, such as Acatita, Mineral de Cucharas and others, deserted.
With a population of 12,230 inhabitants, the mostly rural region, dedicated to agriculture, has been affected by insecurity in recent months.
People who reserve their identity, for fear of reprisals from criminal groups and the government itself, point out that in addition to forced displacement in the state, there are homicides, disappearances, robberies and forced recruitment.
How does Nayarit confront the cartels? In response to this, the Nayarit government assured that in coordination with the Navy and the National Defense Secretariat, it is carrying out security operations in municipalities such as Tepic, Bahía de Banderas, Tecuala, San Blas and Compostela.

These operations include vehicle inspections and strategic patrols “to safeguard the integrity of citizens and maintain public order.” However, residents say that despite these efforts, violence persists due to the lack of resources and capabilities of local authorities.
So far, the local government insists that it has delivered mattresses, food supplies and medicines, but has not disclosed plans for relocating people, nor a census of the number of displaced people.
Recently, the National Guard reported in a statement that in Acatita it seized more than 4,300 cartridges, 43 magazines and a long gun, after locating two suspects who managed to escape.
People from the community have requested, through social networks, food, clothing and other supplies to assist displaced people seeking refuge in the municipal capital and other nearby municipalities.
The parish of Nuestra Señora de Remedios set up, two weeks ago, a dining room for people and called for collaboration to maintain the space, where dozens of people now eat.
The situation in Huajicori adds to conflicts on the borders with the states of Durango and Sinaloa, such as those occurring in Chiapas, where criminal groups dispute control of the territory for drug trafficking.
