International tourism in Nayarit falls during Holy Week and Easter

During the recent Easter holiday period, Nayarit registered a decrease of more than 30% in international tourist arrivals, a situation that directly impacted the economic impact, which fell short of the projected goal of 6 billion pesos, although it did exceed 5 billion.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism, Juan Enrique Suárez del Real Tostado, explained that this drop in foreign tourism is due to global factors, primarily the perception of international uncertainty and a trend among travelers to remain in their countries of origin.

Faced with complex international scenarios, many tourists are choosing not to leave their places of residence, which has generated a significant reduction in the flow of visitors to destinations like Nayarit.

Despite this situation, he clarified that domestic tourism partially compensated for this decline, as there were visitors from states such as Jalisco, Mexico City, Durango, and Sinaloa, who were key to maintaining tourism activity during the season.

Regarding hotel occupancy, he indicated that levels reached between 91 and 92 percent in some destinations, while in others it remained above 87 percent, with a state average of 83 percent. These figures reflect strong performance in domestic tourism and place Nayarit among the top tourist destinations nationwide.

To conclude, the secretary added that promotional strategies are already being prepared for the summer season, focused on strengthening both domestic and international tourism, improving the destination’s image in foreign markets, and leveraging air and road connectivity to increase visitor numbers.
