A new case of alleged misappropriation of public spaces has sparked controversy on social media after Mexican influencer Josué Jaib posted a video in which a man, apparently a foreigner, blocks his access to a Mexican beach in the state of Nayarit.
The clip, posted on TikTok by the content creator known as @josue_jaib, shows a hooded man wearing dark glasses and a green cap, aggressively blocking the road. The scene takes place in front of a rudimentary structure made of branches, which functions as a makeshift wall on the sand.
In the video, which lasts one minute and six seconds, Josué berates the man while recording from his truck. “Move out because I’m going to cross. The beach has no owner, sir,” the TikToker tells him, while the man insists he cannot cross.
The man, visibly upset, responds in English and Spanish: “Get out! Go away, please.” To which the content creator reacts with disbelief: “You can’t do that, listen.”
The discussion escalates when Josué points to the barrier on the coast: “Look how that man has it covered up here, he says it’s his… It may be your land there, but not here.” The influencer then insists on his right to travel through the area: “I’m going to go through there, of course. The beaches have no owners.”
While the hooded man repeats that he will not allow passage, Josué gets back into his vehicle with the intention of continuing on his way. According to the recording, the alleged foreigner threatens to call the police, although the outcome of the situation is not captured in the video.
According to a follower of the TikToker, the events occurred in Islitas, in the municipality of San Blas, Nayarit, although neither the exact location nor the identity of the individual involved has been officially confirmed so far.
The post sparked outrage among social media users, who expressed their support for the influencer and their rejection of the attempted privatization of the beach. Among the most notable comments were phrases such as: “The beaches belong to us Mexicans, so please respect them if you want to be here” and “The beach is public and it’s for all Mexicans.”
Other comments took a more aggressive tone: “You would have run over him four times and thrown him into the sea. The place looks so lonely,” and “It’s a federal zone, you wouldn’t have even stopped for that ridiculous thing.”
In the video’s comments, Josué took the opportunity to inform his followers about their rights: “If you are ever denied access to a beach, remember that in Mexico all beaches are public. You can contact the Navy or the local police. Knowing your rights makes a difference.”
The video, which has surpassed thousands of views, has reignited the debate about the irregular privatization of federal zones in Mexico, a recurring problem in the country’s tourist destinations. To date, no official statement has been issued by local or federal authorities regarding this incident.
The case highlights the need to strengthen enforcement of the laws that guarantee free access to Mexican beaches, which are, by law, national property and for public use.
