In a historic event that marks a milestone in the relationship and cultural development between Nayarit and Oaxaca, the Guelaguetza is being held for the first time in Nayarit, uniting two states rich in traditions and culture. This gathering not only represents a celebration of Mexico’s cultural diversity but also promotes the dignity of indigenous peoples and the preservation of their traditions.
The Governor of the State of Nayarit, Dr. Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero, along with his wife, the President of the Nayarit DIF System, Dr. Beatriz Estrada Martínez, commemorated this event by presenting a recognition for her outstanding attendance as a guest entity at the Nayarit 2025 Fair to the head of the Oaxaca Tourism Secretariat, Saymi Pineda Velasco, who attended on behalf of Engineer Salomón Jara Cruz, Governor of the State of Oaxaca.
Dr. Navarro Quintero, in his speech, stated that “Oaxaca and I are united by the complexion of our skin, the clarity and transparency of our feelings and our conscience. We are proudly Afro-Mexicans, we are people who take pride in our roots and our cultures.” He also emphasized that this is the first time that the Guelaguetza has left Oaxaca for a state in the Republic, representing “a unique day of celebration” for Nayarit.
Pineda Velasco commented that “it is an honor for the state to share the grandeur of the Guelaguetza, a celebration that represents the very essence of generosity and community spirit. It is a living manifestation of our roots, an opportunity to share with the world an experience full of color, music, dance, and the cultural richness of our indigenous peoples.”
Pineda Velasco also thanked Nayarit’s Secretary of Tourism, Juan Enrique Suárez del Real Tostado, with whom he shares the vision of strengthening the tourism sector, for the coordinated effort that allowed the Oaxacan culture to be showcased, strengthening the ties between the two states.
This celebration, held in Nayarit with more than 500 artists from nine official delegations from five regions of the state of Oaxaca, brought together thousands of people who enjoyed a day full of color, music, and joy, creating a space for cultural exchange that enriched all attendees, inviting them to reflect on the importance of keeping our traditions alive and to work together for a more inclusive and respectful Mexico.
