Andrés Manuel López Obrador, president of Mexico, revealed this Thursday that government officials traveled to Argentina to explore bringing the Russian Sputnik V vaccine against Covid-19 and applying it in the national territory.
“Yes, there is Hugo (López-Gatell, Undersecretary of Health) in Argentina. He carries out that mission because we are looking to solve the vaccine issue. President Alberto Fernández, president of Argentina, is going to receive him, ”AMLO said at his morning press conference.
He explained that the trip “was to see the experience, the protocols, and technical elements to see if this vaccine can be acquired.”
The Russian manufacturers of the Sputnik V vaccine submitted the application and necessary documentation to the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris), on December 14 to carry out clinical studies in Mexico, according to Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard.
So far, Argentina marks a week since health personnel have been vaccinated with the first shipment of 300,000 doses of the compound arrived from Moscow on December 24, which began to be applied in all provinces for free.
